The Crimson Field - Season 1
Description
It is a series of drama that speaks of the suffering of wars in a period of history. The series begins with a team of doctors, nurses and volunteers working in a field hospital during World War I. Those periods needed more of these banners to fight a daily battle to keep the soldiers well to fight. The decline in the number of staff may lead to a decision to rely entirely on female volunteers, despite some rejections.

The wartime setting gives The Crimson Field more gravitas than a Downton-style soap but the premiere episode never gets too bleak.August 07, 2015
Although the stories may not stick with the viewer in the way that many quality television dramas tend to do, both the drama involving each individual nurse as well as the soldiers they treat remain entertaining.June 19, 2015
It's a similar mix of highstakes drama and old-fashioned soap, but it's too soon to say if it carries the unexpected bite of [Call the] Midwife.
